Nigel Power QC has been involved in many high -profile criminal cases including the racist killing of Anthony Walker in Huyton, the "Gangland" shooting of Michael Wright at the East Lancashire Road Retail Park and the murder of mother-of-three Lucy Hargreaves. He has represented the leading defendants in a number of prominent drug conspiracies including Operation McArthur (Frank Smith), Operation Montrose (Paul Allen) and Operation Abraham (John Morris) and Jeanette Mercer, charged with perverting the course of justice for her son, the killer of Rhys Jones. His fraud practice includes the massive advance fee fraud Operation Tarvin and the successful defence of Stephen Bragg in The Millennium Dome Fraud. Other cases of interest include representing Roy Barwise ( charged with membership of the Ulster Volunteer Force and possession of firearms for a terrorist purpose) and Joseph McLeary (acquitted at Court Martial of the manslaughter of an Iraqi looter in the aftermath of the second Iraq war). Mr Power has extensive experience of cases involving complex and ground - breaking DNA evidence, complex evidence of the operation of computers, the interception of communications (including foreign phone taps), cell site evidence, detailed psychiatric evidence, communications between prisoners and evidence obtained from other jurisdictions by Letter of Request.
